Cando Rail & Terminals is undertaking a significant, multi-year development project at their Sturgeon Multi-Purpose Terminal, in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. The current development phase will effectively double Cando’s existing rail capacity to become one of the largest rail terminals in North America.
The site is located 23 km to the northeast of Edmonton, adjacent to the Pembina Redwater Complex, south of NWR Sturgeon Refinery and directly west of the CN Beamer Spur. The completed facility will comprise approximately 240 hectares and include railcar storage, fuel transloading and railcar maintenance and cleaning. Construction on the project is expected to start in 2025.
Code Consultant Expertise: CodeNext Inc. plays a critical role in the project development team as the Code Consultant and Fire Protection System Designer. Our contributions include; analysis of relevant Codes, standards, and referenced construction and safety guidelines for the project, assistance in the development of the risk assessments, coordinating with local fire service, and the development of fire safety plans and technical reports.
